Tips to Help Your Kids Lead Their Friends to Christ
Part of our role as Christian parents is to equip our kids to share the gospel. However, many parents get stuck on HOW to do this because this can be a difficult and intimidating topic even for adults. The truth is, it is our responsibility — at any age — to share the Word of God. When we share our faith with others, it in turn strengthens our faith. This is especially true with children because it builds their confidence in what they believe.
Did you know that 50% of Christ-followers were led to Christ by their parents and 20% were led by a friend? This proves how important it is that our children share their faith to impact their friends!
In this blog, we help parents and caretakers understand the importance of equipping children with the confidence and tools to share their faith, and we provide some tips to make it easier.
Helpful Steps
To get started, we recommend reviewing the following steps with your child so they are prepared and comfortable. Of course every child is different and some of these steps may need adjusting depending on their age.
Step 1: Identify a Friend. Talk to your child about who they know that could benefit from hearing the good news of the gospel. This may or may not be someone you know personally, and that’s ok!
Step 2: Pray. Pray for God to provide an opportunity for your child to talk to their friend. Pray for the friend that their heart will be open to what your child has to share. Include your child in this prayer.
Step 3: Build the Relationship and Ask Questions. Make sure your child is comfortable talking to this person. For kids, this is usually easier than it is for adults. Encourage them to ask their friend questions about their life.
Step 4: Start the Conversation. Encourage your child to start the conversation like they would any other conversation, and to keep it casual. Give them simple examples of ways to share the good news. You can even role play with them to make them more comfortable. Encourage your child to share their own experience about what God has done for them.
Step 5: Follow-up. After they talk to their friend, follow-up with them with excitement! Ask them how it went and how they felt sharing the gospel. Tell them you are so proud of them and that no matter the outcome, that Jesus is proud of them too.
Step 6: Pray Again. Continue to pray for the friend and for your child’s confidence in continuing to share the good news.
Make it Fun
The most important thing is that sharing their faith is FUN for your child. They should be excited and enthusiastic about this exciting opportunity — and, we can help with some fun resources!
For example, they can use our CBA Cross or Faith Bracelet to help explain the salvation message.
No matter what, remind them that they can be bold and confident when sharing their faith because Jesus is with them, walking them through it!
Godstory
A mom shared that her 3rd grade son invited a friend to a Bible2School program. The friend asked, “Can you tell me again how you pray to ask Jesus into your heart?” The little boy led his friend to Jesus Christ. The mom was so overjoyed that Bible2School equipped her son to share his faith and lead his friend in a life-saving prayer.
